You can’t live without Gree AC on hot days. But when you see the electricity bill at the end of the month, you feel dizzy. Seeing a bill of 1500 taka makes you upset. But do you know, in some simple ways you can reduce the electricity cost of Gree AC a lot? Especially if you have a Gree inverter AC, then it’s no problem. Let’s find out five simple but effective ways.
1. Keep the temperature at 24-26 degrees
Many people turn on the AC and lower the temperature to 18 or 20 degrees. It seems that the lower the temperature, the colder it is. But this is actually a wrong idea and this causes the electricity bill to skyrocket. If the temperature is reduced by 1 degree, the electricity cost increases by 6-8%. That means that if you run it at 18 degrees, you are consuming about 40-50% more electricity than at 24 degrees!
In fact, the temperature of 24-26 degrees is comfortable and healthy. At this temperature, you sleep better, your body is better. And the most important thing is, the electricity bill will be halved. Make it a habit to stay at 24 degrees. You will see that you get complete comfort if you run the ceiling fan together.
Keep it at 26 degrees at night and turn on the sleep mode. Gree AC has a sleep mode that gradually adjusts the temperature at night. This will give you comfort and also save electricity. It is possible to save one and a half thousand taka per month just by this one habit.
2. Keep the house closed and block the sun
Close all the doors and windows of the house well before turning on the AC. If there is a small gap, hot air will enter and the AC will have to work more. As a result, it will consume more electricity. If there is a gap under the door, close it with a draft stopper or a cloth.
Hang thick curtains on the windows. Especially on the windows through which the sun comes directly, install blackout curtains or thick curtains. This will not allow the sun’s heat to enter the house. Studies have shown that using good curtains reduces the work of the AC by up to 25%.
Keep the curtains closed during the day, especially from 12 noon to 3 pm. This is the time when the sun is at its strongest. It is better if you can put a shade outside the window. Some people have installed heat reflecting film on the windows, which also works great. Spending it once will save you years of electricity bills.
3. Clean the filter regularly
This is very important, but not everyone does it. If the AC filter is dirty, the air cannot pass through properly. As a result, the AC has to work harder, consuming more electricity. A dirty filter can increase electricity costs by 15-20%!
Open and clean the filter once every 2 weeks. This is a very simple task. Open the cover of the indoor unit, take out the filter, sweep it with a brush or wash it in water and dry it. It takes 5 minutes, but it will save you hundreds of taka per month.
Some models of Gree AC have a self-cleaning feature. Turn it on regularly. However, you have to clean the filter by hand. Get a professional technician to deep clean it 1-2 times a year. They will clean the inner coils and fans. This improves the performance of the AC and reduces electricity costs.
4. Run the ceiling fan together
Many people think that there is no need to run the fan if the AC is on. But in fact, running the ceiling fan and AC together saves a lot. The fan spreads the cold air evenly, so you can increase the temperature of the AC by 1-2 degrees.
Suppose you have to run the AC at 22 degrees without the fan. If you run the fan, you will get the same comfort at 24 degrees. This 2 degree difference can save 500-800 taka per month. The ceiling fan consumes only 60-80 watts of electricity, whereas the AC consumes 1000-1500 watts. The calculation is clear.
Run only the fan at the beginning of summer. When it really gets too hot, turn on the AC. When it gets a little cold in the evening, turn off the AC and run only the fan. If you run it smartly like this, you will have to run the AC for 4-5 hours less a day, which will make a huge difference in a month.
5. Use timer and eco mode
Gree AC has a timer function, use it. Set a timer for 3-4 hours while sleeping at night. After falling asleep, the AC is no longer needed, the fan is enough. If you set a timer, the AC will turn off automatically after a specified time. In this way, the AC will be off for half the night, and the electricity bill will be half.
Gree inverter ACs have an eco mode or power saving mode. When this mode is turned on, the AC will consume the least amount of electricity. It reduces the speed of the compressor, but maintains comfort. Turn on eco mode during the day or when you don’t need much cold.
Turn off the AC when you go to the office. It is enough to turn it on half an hour before returning. Some smart Gree models have Wi-Fi, which can be turned on and off using your mobile. You can turn it on from the office before returning. This will keep the AC off for 8-10 hours a day, reducing the bill by 40-50%.
Some more small tips
Do not keep too many electronic devices on in the house. TV, computer, laptop all generate heat. As a result, the AC has to work more. Turn off or unplug anything that is not needed.
Cooking on the stove in the kitchen warms the house. Cook in the morning or evening on hot days when it is cool. Eat a light meal or salad at noon. This will not heat up the kitchen, the entire flat will remain cool.
Keep the AC outdoor unit in a shaded place. If it is in direct sunlight, the unit heats up, and it has to work harder. If possible, arrange shade or put a cover. But make sure that the air circulation is not obstructed.
Get it serviced regularly. At least twice a year – before the start of the heating season and at the end. The technician will check the gas level, clean the coil, and see if everything is in order. With regular maintenance, the AC will be in good condition, consume less electricity, and last longer.
